AHC : DIVIDE FRANCE BY CIVIL WAR IN 1700s

Rebellion and flare-ups went on and off right up to Waterloo. How long do you want?

The OP I think means as long as possible, so 10-20 years with a France divided into two countries perhaps? Actually, the Coalition that will invade France will be a problem, other problems as well.

I am talking about 1790s, just in case you didn't know.

There was a bit in LTTW with a rump Kingdom of France in the Vendee and Brittany coexisting with a Revolutionary France that ruled the rest of France. Not sure if such an arrangement is stable for anything resembling long-term, but it's an option.

For the 1700's, you can forget it.

France was the most coherent dans the most solid kingdom of Europe.

You already had the worst possible internal conflict with the civil war following the revolution, and it did not break up the country. It was a conflict about legitimacy's principles, about social and political values, about property, it was even religious. And however, the national unity was never in question.

But to have your scenario work, you would have to resort to some kind of massive asteroïd factor.

If you bring it back things to the 1500's, then you could imagine more easily a break-up of the country on religious bases. Take the times of the war beteween the catholic league and Henri IV.

So was I.

And I don't see where the OP said it had to last as long as possible, and I'm not even sure what that is supposed to mean. All he said was to have France have a civil war instead of a revolution, as if they are mutually exclusive.

Oops, your correct, I just assumed. Apologies.
