AHC/Discussion: Amish President?

I was wondering, post Cold War how could you have a President who is an Amish,or has a strong link to the Amish or similar groups. And if possible(Any president is possible these days) what kind of platform would they run on?

Not possible. The Amish do not get involved in politics. Anyone who did would get cast out and shunned. Same for the Mennonites and other related faiths. It just wouldn't be done. At best, you might get someone who was raised Amish but left the faith and community after Rumspringa. But they would be considered an outcast.

Amish vote in droves though. Look at recent presidential campaigns. George W. Bush made a strong effort to get the Armish to come out and vote in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

You might want to double check your source on that. While Bush did make a strong push for the Amish, less than half of Amish households are registered to vote (43%) and only ~13% actually voted in that election. Source for information located here.

Hmm I didn't know voting was so low

I can only see a sincere Amish running for office in a time of dire emergency, when the community saw an existential threat and no other way to avoid it. Even then, the presidency is utterly dependent on high technology and tough moral choices; he's essentially sacrificing his Amishness for the community. He or she might go down into Amish legend as one who sacrificed everything for his people.

I think this would be more likely on a local level to be honest. Something like City councilman or mayor. Maybe a county commissioner. I think national office is pretty much out of the question. Even local office would only be sought if there was an existential threat to the community and there were no other options.

Yeah, I don't think they really care too much about national-level politics. They're more likely to be involved in local politics and then ONLY if the issue directly involves them

That's what everyone said about Trump too...
Trump's more mainstream than some people would like to admit. The Amish are a culturally distinct religious minority with extreme views, Trump's a New York City media figure who espouses bigoted remarks that appeal to a lot of modern Republicans. Wanting to isolate yourself from certain kinds of technology is somehow considered more shocking or radical than tweeting angry gibberish all day.

I am not personaly very familiar with the Amish. But statistics on their growth rates suggest that they are increasing rapidly in numberically, aswell as proportionally in USA. With the Amish population increasing, the likelihood of an amish-ish candidate is increased. I think that before you see an American president with Amish background, you will see local polticans from that community.
