AHC: Different Entente cordiale

The challenge, if you choose to accept it, is for the Third French Republic and the Second German Empire to make an Entente cordiale analogue. The POD has to be between 1871 and 1904.

Well Bismarck for quite a lot of the time tried a rapprochement approach to France, just like he had with Austria after beating them.

Alternatively, you could focus on one of the Anglo-French crises at the end of the 1890s - either the Upper Niger or Fashoda, and if either become a fighting war, no matter how short and sharp it would look sensible for France to cosy up to Germany.

With Russia's defeat against Japan soon thrown into the mix (barring flutterbyes) a Franco-German alignment against the British-Japanese one (or a perceived one) would work

Unless Germany hands back Alsace-Lorraine, any rapprochement between the two is next to impossible.

Rapprochement is not the same as alliance.

How? In what possible way is an alliance with Germany going to help France here?

France either needs a naval ally, which Germany is not in the 1890s, or someone able to threaten the British Empire from some other direction - again, Germany does not count.

Germany does not annex any french territory. Then you could have had european construction 70 years earlier.
