AHC: Deva Victrix, Capital of Britannia

Deva Victrix is the Roman name of my home town, Chester

Some interesting ideas about the city have come up with the idea that Deva could have been the planned capital of Roman Britain, with the possibly of a conquest of Ireland. I know that Wiki is not the best of sources, but it does a quite good job in this case of giving a bit of background.

So, that challenge is to have Deva as the Capital of Roman Britain and bonus points if you explain how this would have affected the course of British History.

Thanks,

Sir Clive

I suppose if the Romans continue there expansion in Caledonia(Scotland) and Hiberia(Ireland) it would be likely because of the position of Deva. However Caledonia and Hiberia isn't worth the trouble. Otl Brittania is already a net loss too the Empire.

You need a succesfull Roman expansion in Germania and more expansionistic emperors who want too bring "glory" to the people of Rome. After the Expansion in Germania the next logical step would be Caledonia and maybe Hiberia.

The main reason of why the Romans never conquered Caledonia and was because it wasn't worth it. However an Emperor who wants make Rome "Greater" with Caledonia's hills and Hibernian grasslands should be reason enough. No defeat of the Romans against the Germanians and the expansion mindset is still alive and thriving after Trojan.

It sure would be an odd place for a capital for *England. A staging point for an invasion of ireland, and a capital for the whole british isles, i could see.

So... i think that involves the conqering of hibernia, and a roman ireland is a bigger change in history than a changed capital. Imo.
