AHC: Defeat Eisenhower in 1956

(I wanted to do one on Nixon, but there's already a TL on that.)

Challenge: Have a candidate defeat Eisenhower in 1956.

Have the Korean War last until then, (one of his campaign slogans were "I shall go to Korea") and either reunite the peninsula at the great cost of American lives, or have it be stuck in a long and painful stalemate.

I would suggest a major sex scandal, but the media at that time would never have reported on that. I doubt if anything but an economic collapse could dislodge Ike.

There was a recession in 1958 that helped Democrats (or is it Democratics?). No idea how to move it up, and whether that lessens the severity of it.

President eisenhower had a heart attack in 1955 whih almost prompted him to not run in 1956, He had surgery for iletis in June of 1956. He also had a stoke, which affected his speech, in November of 1957.

Move up the stroke to say late September or October 1956 and this might be enough to have him withdraw. Make the stroke severe but he doesn't withdraw may do it.
