AHC: Create a Political Ideology from a Music Genre

It's not uncommon for music to have a ideological them/current, sometimes even to the point of creating its own subculture; Skinheads would be one of the most obvious examples of this. However, despite the political nature music can take, despite the connections some genres have to certain demographics, despite all the Anarchist Punks and Nationalist Metalheads, there has never been an Ideology created directly from a musical genre.

So your challenge is to make one; have a Political Ideology be formed out of a genre of music. Now, this doesn't have to be super unique or original, I'm not asking you to create an entirely new ideology out of nothing but songs. It can be a variant of an already existing ideology, it just has to be dinstinct enough to warrant being called its own thing. For example; Swing Communism is entirely valid so long as it is as different from 'regular' Communism as, say, Maoism is from Stalinism.

This isn't a very serious challenge and is mostly just meant for fun, but I am legitimately interested by the idea and would really appreciate it if people really tried on this one. :)

I think you might need musicians to enjoy a far higher social status than they do in real life, so that adherents can view the politics as emanating from the music, the same way that, for example, theocrats view politics as emanating from religion.

And, of course, most religions already contain rules and regulations that can translate into the political sphere, eg. Jewish law is the inspiration for some of the religious political parties in Israel. But music? I dunno. Even Hitler didn't bother promoting Wagner much to the general public, despite viewing him as a major source of inspiration.

The best I can do is a political movement that is somehow built around lobbying for the music itself. For example, rock musicians in the 80s create a party to oppose the PMRC; the Elvis Is Alive crowd tries to get his picture on US money etc.

Other than that, I think you'd need the music to be viewed with political and/or religious significance to begin with, eg. A Contemporary Christian Music faction of the Religious Right. But how would that faction differ in terms of belief from the Religious Right as a whole? The only difference I can imagine is that music would figure more prominently in their rallies, advertising, etc.

Maybe something involving Reggae could be done, but I'll leave that for people who've listened to more than a few songs here and there.

I, too, will have to forego any claims to in-depth knowledge of reggae, save maybe to observe that the direct ideological influence on a political party is more likely to be rastafarianism, with the music simply providing the aesthetic trappings, and possibly the poetic encapsulation of the beliefs.

But I join in soliciting the views of the better-informed.

Maybe Charles Manson's music career takes off, averting the Tate murders and letting his cult grow further…

Well, assuming that it was anything more than a cover for some drug murders, "Helter Skelter" probably did qualify as a political program inspired by music(albeit not Manson's), thus fitting the OP's criteria.

Though it's probably not one that would get anywhere near widespread support, even on the fringes. There were black militants who wanted to start a race war, and white militants who wanted to start a race war, but the idea of white militants pretending to be black in order to start a race war with plans for the whites to win likely wouldn't find many takers.
