AHC: Create a Plausible Invasion of Britain Plan

Sealion was a bad plan which was doomed to failure, but nonetheless, I dare speak what is not to be spoken. The concept of an invasion of Britain is distinct from that horrendous plan that shall be no further named. The challenge here is to create a plausible, reasonable plan for a German invasion of Britain during the Second World War.

There isn't one so long as the RN remembers how to work a boat and the RAF remember how to fly.

Giving Germany a strong enough navy to realistically face the RN leaves them without an army which can beat Poland or France/UK and leaves their submarine arm weaker (and depends on the RN not countering any changes in German naval building).

Look to work it would need something as silly as the below.

Hitler and the whole Nazi Party drink some funny beer at Christmas 1939 celebrations and wake up rampant communists.
The new German Democratic Peoples Republic merges with the soviet union and declares the freeing of the workers is at hand.
France et al falls to the combined Heer/Red Army
Massive Fleet built with the combined resources of Europe
RN driven from sea by sheer numbers
RAF overwhelmed by sheer numbers
Red Horde invade

DL:TR see all the other threads of why its a total no-no without some ASB like above or building the bomb in 1941.

The purpose is not Sealion. The purpose is exactly the opposite. An invasion of Britain is not exclusive to the horrid aquatic mammal. That was just a daft plan for doing so.

The problem here is you are asking for a workable invasion plan of Britain (I assume in 1940) which is exactly what Sealion was!

Sealion was only a bad plan in that it was unlikely to achieve any of its military goals - the idea to land at the few beaches between Brighton and Dover where 'the most sensible' given the tools the Germans had to do the job - that it is still an insane plan does not mean that there would be a better one.

Planning is not the problem, you can design an improved invasion plan. The problem is resources. Germany has no effective surface navy. She has no merchant fleet, no effective landing craft, and her Air Force is too small and short range to get air supremacy over Southern England.

First step in defeating Britain is to destroy its army in France. Allowing 215,000 British soldiers to escape to where they would later counter any invasion attempt was plain stupid.

Actually, with a totally different history from a PoD before WWI, it might be possible. Germany wins WWI (OK, not easy, but possible). Spends the next decades building up the Glorious German Reich on the backs of the conquered French, and using much of Central Europe as its colonies, in a way.

Meanwhile, the UK has the same massive debt problems as OTL (as France has no chance of paying anything back).
The US stays in Splendid Isolation (probably a pre-condition for Germany to win).

So, when Britain gets stroppy about the Reich taking over all of France's colonies in the '40s, Germany manoeuvres them into war, and with crushing military superiority in Army and Air Force, they invade Britain using their superior air power to counter act the marginally superior RN. It goes much worse than the High Command expects (all those torpedo bombers and dive bombers aren't quite as effective as they'd hoped, and the RN's better trained than the Imperial Marine, but ....

It's doable. But you need a WWI PoD or earlier.

Of course, this wouldn't be anything like OUR WWII, but it could be A WWII.

Oh. And you need to remember to start your invasion by landing on the Isle of Thanet :)

As others have said. If it's 'our WWII', no. Nope. Ain't gunna happen.
