AHC: Create a NK style East Germany in the 1990s

The challenge is to keep East Germany as a communist state until the present day with North Korean Style government and cult. Bonus points if West berlin Remains part of West Germany.

I don't see it happening unless a similar sort of leader is in charge of the USSR. If East Germany is the only one remainging communist, the government will collapse very quickly. If the Soviets and co. are still around, then they'll off any leader acting as independently as Kim does.

Not only was the base psychology of the state different, they were also far too exposed to western media for that to work. In fact there were only two small areas within the GDR where you couldn't get western Telly with a standard home-made antenna.

The GDR never actively hindered the reception of western TV (they did for radio sometimes) and you could legally (after a lengthy bureaucratic process) put up an imported sat dish onto your roof and get western TV all the time.

The DDR was making a strong effort to avoid the whole personality cult thing for reasons that should be plainly obvious.
