Apparently there is now a perception that the "Ok" gesture has got something to do with White Supremacy!?

It seems to have started out as a 4chan hoax, that for some reason people have started taking seriously. To the extent that some extremists have tried to claim it, much to the bewilderment of the rest of us.

It gets even sillier when you consider that it has a number of legitimate uses in Scuba Diving, Sign-Language and Medical Testing.
Yeah ... different cultures ...

Do these Neo Nazis know that this kind of hand-dign is an important part of ... 'driving communication' in Europe ?

Esp if someone in Italy makes this sign to someone else , rather often to be seen in the dayly innercity trafiic , he renders you a mayor ass-h-le ?

I don't know if that matters.

A number of years ago an Australian Kentucky Fried Chicken ad showed a group of agitated West Indian cricket fans being calmed down by a bucket of fried chicken.

Now fried chicken has racist connotations in the Southern USA, but not in Australia or the West Indies. This was an ad in another country supporting a game that isn't played in the US with no US citizens involved. That didn't stop a twitter storm.

There have been a number of these cross cultural kerfuffles and they are going to keep happening. Given the soft power of US culture it is hard to resist. I know Australian TV now has to be careful about water melons and fried chicken. Stuff that had no cultural resonance before.

Bert.

From my experience the ability of Italian Drivers to express their displeasure with other road users is a cultural imperative, akin to a religious obligation.

I wonder how the habit of British Drivers, and especially Bus Drivers, to raise their right arm in signalling and acknowledgement will be treated.
(It often does look a lot like the German Greeting)
