AHC: Considerable movement for Canada to join the US

I debated sticking this in ASB, but I think it is doable in some form.

Essentially, the challenge is to create a sizable minority or movement in Canada to have the 10 provinces and territories join the US as, well, states and territories in the 20th or 21st centuries.

Bonus points if you can make a more modern movement, or if there is more integration as a result.

A larger French population in New England in the 1700's, creating French as a more widespread language in the region today. Then during WWII the Vichy government attempts an uprising and is brutally put down. Thousands of French refugees flee to both Northeastern US and Canada, creating stronger ties. When the Quebec indepedendace movement is started, some of its strongest allies are in the US. Because of this the major movement in Quebec (and Maritime Canada) seeks to join the US, rather than independence. The Bloc Québécois and co. ally themselves with the Unionest Party in the 1980's, and thanks to their and US support do far better and become a minor provincial party throughout the western states.
Now you have a more widespread Québécois movement that seek American annexation and an annexation movement in the western provinces.

... a little less Trump and a lot more Sanders .... We'll be over by the weekend!:D

(... sorry, I couldn't resist!)

The only thing I can think of is Quebec leaves, Canada breaks up, and the US annex what's left. Although I don't think Quebec would ever join another English speaking union.

During the Great Depression, an even larger dust bowl decimates the Canadian Prairies. Canadian formers abandoned their land and ride the rails in search of work.
After the drought passes, American farmers move north to plow the prairies. So many American farmers move north that they dominate the (former) Prairie Provinces And petition to join the USA.
Delaying the St. Lawrence Seaway would force Prairie farmers to export their wheat via Churchill or the Mississippi River.

As soon as they lost their land-link to Eastern Canada, British Columbia would float off on its own.

Is it doable ? Yes but extremely difficult. If you set aside the french settlers, Canada is the country of the english-speaking settlers that did not want to be part of the USA at the time of the american revolution war.

Quite like having Portugal accepting joining Spain, Switzerland splitting in order to become part of Austria or Germany, France and Italy, ... etc.
