AHC: Confederate Exiles in Cuba.

Now, there have been many TLs where Cuba has been integrated into the Confederacy, and eventually it is annexxed into the United States after the war.

THat is not what i am asking or proposing.

What i am proposing is whether or not a large number of exiles could flee to Cuba, creating an government in exile and perhaps, over time, "take over" the country per say and create another Confederacy? Yet the fact is that the United States and even Spain would probably make this implausible, hell, the US would ost likely annex it anyway, but is it at all possible to have an independent Cuba made up of Confederate exiles?

The only people the Cubans were MORE likely to fight against in the 1870s than the Spanish would be the likes of rebel dead-ender "Confederadoes"...

Pretty doubtful.

Best,

for somewhat reasons I now imagine Fidel Castro waves the stars and bars...

A proud member of the 1st Bearded Volunteer Infantry

Cuhn'l Cay-stro, proud member of the 1st Cuban Bearded Volunteer Infantry, stands up at the Lee-Jackson-Marti-Garcia Day Dinner to lead the audience in a stirring rendition of Dixie Libre!

Confederate Kingmakers

What if a large body of Confederates made their way to Cuba? What if the Spanish were to use this group of armed, trained men to hunt down any Cuban who had independence on their mind, criminals, and other troublemakers?

First, If this Confederate Legion was successful and had a popular leader (Maybe Jubal Early?)who married into the Aristocracy?

Second, Maybe the Confederate Legion backs a Spanish commander, When he is victorious Madrid puts him in charge of the whole island?

So on the island of Cuba the Confederado force may end up as the power behind the throne.

The Confederates end up running Cuba (openly or Secretly) until the Spanish American War. Unless of course they win it but that is highly unlikely.

Does America annex Cuba in this world because of its Confederate ties?

What happens to the 2nd Generation Confederados?

Spain had a Navy;

Spain had a Navy; and they had their fill of American filibusterers in the decades before the Civil War, and after, for that matter...
