With a PoD after WW2, how could there be a nuclear exchange set off between the United Kingdom and France? The only condition of this scenario is that the first nuke that goes off has to be either French or British and directed at their rival across the Channel (or at one of their colonial possessions). It may be accidental, but I would prefer to see a scenario where it's done on purpose.

Very unlikely but maybe France goes national Communist (Red deGaulle?) after WWII but not Soviet occupied and develops its own nukes?
This would be an A.S.B level of insanity. Britain and France are far too close to nuke each other. You'd end up killing your own people with fallout from the bombs you dropped.
Red DeGaulle would be ASB.
It would need to be the actual French Communist Party.
True. In the backstory of Earth Six France nuked London and Colchester in '66, but that was to stop WOTAN and the Earth had already seen aliens and similar.
My reference to a 'Red DeGaulle' was not to the historical personage but to the PCF being led by a Communist analog to le Grand Charles.
