AHC: Collapse the British Empire

Find a pre-1900 POD that leads to the British Empire relinquishing its authority over its colonies like it did after WWII in OTL but sooner. Preferably before the 1900s,

ASB maybe, but... socialist revolt or revolution in UK core, the chaos send the crown and others into the Dominions like Canada, India and other such distant colonies are going kinda autonomous in the chaos...

The easiest way would be to keep Britain relatively weak in general so that it can neither have dominance over the seas or control its colonies as effectively.

At best with a Bryan presidency the US stays out of the war, the war drags on and even more Indian troops are used, especially on the western front. Indian demands for Dominion status are accepted by popular demand. The rest of the empire is harder. Maybe South Africa and India are invested with administring parts of the empire close to them.

Britain remains divided and feudal in the middle ages, possibly entering a Japan/HRE like state. It never gains any power.

Queen Victoria is even more stubborn and inclined to try meddling in politics than in RL: The monarchy is overthrown in 1848, the year when so many other European thrones are also threatened by their peoples, and a republic is established. Those of the colonies that have significant British settlement are offered a choice between incorporation into this republic (the 'Second Commonwealth') and progressing to independence, and most of the other colonies are never developed beyond trading posts. The Honourable East Indian Company eventually accepts the republic's control, but this weakens British rule in India and that is overthrown by native revolutionaries in the mid-1850s.

Revolution in Britain upsets things sometime in the 1840s-1850s. I'm always a fan of "King Ernie" PODs.

The US might make another play for Canada; South Africa and Australia may try to make a go of it on their own (though I could see the former trying to cultivate good relations with the Netherlands). India is going to be...messy.
