So I remembered reading an old thread and seeing Chinese Crete, anyway to make this happen? I think this isn’t ASB, but just very implausible.

Win conditions

- A Chinese state that’s capital is in China must control the island of Crete, a sovereign territory of the said chinese state, up to present day.

Thoughts?

Sounds like one of those reverse colonialism scenarios (the typical POD is Song industrialisation). In this case, our uber Chinese Empire would grab Crete (and probably a host of other Greek islands in the area) as a good base in the Eastern Mediterranean for trade and power projection into Egypt, the Levant, and the Bosporus.

There’s no chance of a monster Yuan Dynasty/united Mongol Empire conquering the Mideast and snatching Crete accomplishing this, right?

Somehow, Britain colonizes more of China and Crete, then brings in Chinese people for labor on something, they stay and the island becomes Chinese influenced by the population.

POD: Ma Daifeng is given more support leading to a Song Industrialization.

Among the discoveries that the Chinese make during this time is a cheap way to make purple dyes for their textiles, at the time it is discovered it goes almost completely unremarked upon. The Chinese then begin trading their manufactured goods to Europe in return for raw materials. While the existence of these cheap goods creates resentment among artisans throughout Europe, this comes to a head in Hellene with the importation of those purple textiles. Wealthy Hellenes begin buying these textiles in massive quantities completely ruining the local industry for purple dyes. The tension finally reaches a boiling point in the city of Hermione, anti-Chinese rioters destroy the goods meant for trade at the local markets and lynch Chinese merchants in the city. News of the Hermione Riot is met with outrage and Bianjing quickly declares war on Constantinople.

A punitive naval expedition mets with trouble when a powder magazine explodes, damaging the hull of their ship, the ship makes an emergency landing on the Hellenic island of Crete. Although the island had not originally been part of the Song strategy, they improvise and quickly conquer it. Reports about the difficulty of bringing even a modern army over the Hellenic terrain convinces the Chinese to stick with mostly large scale raids and blockades with the only major amphibious assault being on the island of Crete. Still the Hellene's realize that they are losing and sue for peace several months into the war. Deciding that they need something tangible to show for their efforts, the Chinese demand Crete. Thus ends the Song-Hellenic War or as it is more popularly known the Purple War.

POD: Jesuit Missionaries are more successful spreading Christianity within China.

The success of Christianity throughout Asia begins to thin the barrier between that continent and Europe. The barrier is finally broken by a minor Portuguese noble man, who in desperation to find a wife that can give him some sort of status decides to seek the hand of a daimyo's daughter. With the trend set, a trickle of European nobility agree to Asian marriages in return for improved trade relations. Among these was the Kingdom of Candia, which in an effort to attain arms to protect itself against the Republic of Venice and the Ottoman Empire convinces the Chinese to receive one of their princesses as an Imperial Consort. Unfortunately, an outbreak of cholera spreads throughout the island shortly after the princess moves to China. Among the dead are those that came ahead of her in the line of succession, meaning that she and thereby the Chinese Emperor receives dominion of the kingdom.

But why do they want to be part of China? Singapore is a OTL example of a place that became Chinese majority but they do not want rule from Beijing...

Exiled Dynasty option.

Take a Dynasty - any dynasty will do - they take the show on the road, ends up in the Middle East. After befriending the right people and out right conquest - Crete is under Chinese Rule.

FTL:

A billionaire Chinese businessman chose to build casinos/resorts in Crete, and the island eventually becomes economically dependent on Chinese money.

:p

Maybe Roman (Daquin) make contact with Serenese. Chinese Empire expands to the Balck sea or Medditerranean. They built a fleet and conquer Crete from the Romans.
