AHC Challenge: Four Chinas

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a situation post 1900 in which there are four Chinese nation states lasting to this day. Han nations, that is, no cheating and using Tibet and Mongolia as two of the four (they can also be independent, of course), and no colonial enclaves like Hong Kong and Macau either.

Does Taiwan count as a Han nation? Manchuria?

A sort of quasi-ASB map I've made, but stranger things have happened in real life...

If you could somehow get a peace between the PRC and nationalists, I could see it. Maybe have the US and Soviets mediate a peace. It would be difficult, with many concessions, but it's doable. Xinjiang could of course end up independent from either side in this scenario.

Sure, that's a good place to start. And if you deprive the communists of a strong leader (off the top of my head, maybe a convenient plane crash takes out Mao and Zhou Enlai on the way to Chongqing in 1945), you could further split them up into two more Chinas -- a Soviet satellite and a more independent-minded Red China.

Hmmmm....

Soviet puppet Manchuria
Red North China
South China (military dictatorship or democracy?)
Taiwan (opposite of South China)
