AHC - Catholic Arabian Peninsula

Can you do it without involving the Crusades or preventing the emergence of Islam? I dare you....

Well besides Muhammad never gaining popularity, which has the potential to leave the Middle East divided. The Muslims weren't just a religion after all, they were an Empire. So its possible that the Crusades never happen, as we know them. Maybe the Catholics in Europe decide to cleanse the area and settle it with Catholic's?

Islam emerges in the Arabian peninsula but loses in decisive battles against both the byzantines and the persians and is confined to that region

Byzantine empire remains extremely powerful and there is a large catholic population in Syria, Palestine, and Egypt

Eventually the Byzantines invade and conquer the Arabian peninsula and a combination of state suppourt, emigration, and conversion makes the Arabian Peninsula Catholic

(does that count as preventing the emergence of Islam?)

It seems to me that the Great Schism is still going to be on its way in some alt-form or another, and with Arabia much closer to Constantinople than Rome, wouldn't that put it in the *Orthodox camp?

Unless, of course, lack of pressure from Islamic empires means the ERE is able to reassert its authority over the west with greater success, thusly aborting the power of the bishop of Rome and uniting the Church under the emperor... But then, that wouldn't really be "Catholic" (at least not as we know it) either.

Hmm... Tricky.

Plus syria, egypt, palestine, anotolia and (maybe) mesopatamia all being Christian dramatically changes Christianity's center of gravity and the entire issue of the church spliting

the byzantines could take over before the great schism (ot ttl equivilent) though
