AHC: Cast a Spider-Man film in the 80s

What if a Spider-Man film actually had been made sometime in the 80s (and i dont mean the aborted Cannon films one, im talking a big budget one), who would you cast as the main characters? So far all i can come up with are Michael J Fox for Peter (i always thought he would have made a good Peter), Charlton Heston as Uncle Ben, and Dabney Coleman as J Jonah Jameson. As for the villains, i'm torn between either Goblin or Doctor Octopus, but if Doc Ock was the main villain, I can see Christopher Lloyd having fun with that one, while Goblin/Norman Osborn could be done well by William Atherton (the guy who played Walter Peck in Ghostbusters).

Schwarzenegger could be in this, maybe as a villain. Maybe as Hammerhead, one of Spider-Man´s lesser known villains. Who could play Kingpin ?

Another consideration for Peter Parker could be Matthew Broadrick. This would probably wipeout Ferris Buehler, but with the success of Wargames, he is an established lead.

For Uncle Ben, I think you need warmer; Robert Young, maybe?

For Norman, I'm thinking Willem Dafoe. For a less-sinister Norman (& a bigger challenge), William Hurt?

Gwen is a very tough call; you need looks up there with Christie Brinkley, IMO, & the right age. Stacey Nelkin ("Serial") with a blonde dye job? Alonna Shaw (probably best known for "Double Impact"); too young? Sharon Stone (too old?)? Amy Steel ("Friday the 13th")? Meg Ryan? Melissa Sue Anderson?

Doc Ock, I'm thinking William Devane. He might be good for Jolly Jonah, too.

Who for Robbie? If Morgan Freeman was a bit older at that time...

Tom Cruise circa 1983, before he signs up for LEGEND. Or, heaven help us, Charlie Sheen. I guess Michael J. Fox would also have been a relatively safe pick. I'd be okay with him.

C Thomas Howell would have been perfect.

Ralph Macchio would be considered. Rob Lowe might have had a chance pre St. Elmo's Fire.

The Spider-Man Quadrilogy (1983-1986)

Director John Hughes
Peter Parker Matthew Broderick
Mary Jane Watson Molly Ringwald
Gwen Stacey Suzanne Snyder
Norman Osborn Judd Nelson
Flash Thompson Emilio Estevez
The Shocker Anthony Michael Hall
Doc Ock Danny Devito
The Lizard Ron Dean
Kraven the Hunter Arnold Schwarzneggar
Green Goblin Mark Hamill
Black Cat Kelly LeBrock
Jonah Jameson Jeffrey Jones

Each year movie covers a year of Peter Parker's High School career. There is a fifth movie directed by David Fincher in 1990 but it is generally considered too "dark and edgy" to fit in with Hughes quadrilogy.

Suzanne Snyder? (Who?) What about Michelle Pfeiffer?:cool: (Debut 1980, but a bit old...)

Black Cat? Bit late in Spidey's history, don't you think?

And Danny DeVito as Doc Ock?:confused::confused: Seriously?

Kelly Le Brock makes a good choice for MJ, tho. Recall, she was a fashion model...

The blonde girlfriend from Weird Science. But I like your pick better!

So is Kraven the Hunter and Venom (the villains of the third movie) but they are too awesome to not be in there.

The original Doc Ock was a very ugly dude, kinda looked like a frog. I was thinking something in the vein of DeVito's Penguin. But better, obviously. :p Do you know any frog faced actors who could do better?

I'm trying to stick with people who were historically cast in John Hughes's movies which don't happen TTL. Also trying to keep people fairly young, hence Ringwald is my pick. LeBrock has got the mild age difference, sex appeal, and confidence to pull off Black Cat better IMHO.

I wholeheartedly second Molly Ringwald as Mary Jane, especially if John Hughes is directing.

As the Kingpin, Kenneth McMillan, who played Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in "Dune".

As Felicia Hardy, either Patricia Arquette if you want to play it safe, or if you want to think outside the box, Jodie Foster.

I cant really see Arnold as Hammerhead. He could probably pull of Kraven, or if they want to dip into the more obscure characters, Molten Man.

TY.:) (I don't think I've seen "Weird Science", so no wonder...;))

Venom, yes--he's quite late. Kraven is late '60s or early '70s, up there with Harry's Gobbie or Hobgoblin. Jackal could fit, too.

I'm thinking you need to go "classic Spidey villain" for a first film, tho, so if you're much later than Mysterio or Kraven, you're out of bounds.

I really don't. I'm objecting to DeVito because he's too small; Ock as I recall him was a pretty big guy.

Whew, if you're limiting to Hughes players... That's a pretty small pool of talent. (I had to go to WP for any '80s actresses for those roles.) I have to say, much as I like Molly, she doesn't have the model looks MJ's supposed to have. Demi might, in that period. Or, an oddball choice maybe, Emma Samms (who I adored;)).

For Gwen, could you steal Genie Francis from "GH"? (This would be around the time of "Young Doctors in Love", right? So she'd be about the right age. {I know, she wasn't in that, but she was in "GH" then.})
