AHC: Canadian territory in the Pacific

As it say in the title - give Canada a territory (or two) in the pacific. I don't think this will be too hard (given how the UK was giving away it's holdings to Australia and New Zealand), but it will be interesting.

The best bet, simply due to (relative) proximity, would be the Line Islands, today part of Kiribati. They are just south of the Kingman Reef and Palmyra Atoll (which are of course American) but they really are the closest bit of territory available. If you have a timeline in which Canada gets a few minor colonies in the Atlantic (aka Bermuda, the Turks and Caicos Islands, etc) from London, I could see the Brits also ceding those islands in the Pacific to their friendly dominion.

However I'd say this is MUCH easier with a pre-Oregon Treaty POD, since it'd enlarge the Pacific coastline southwards. But since this is post-1900...

We're doing our best to colonise Hong Kong, just give us some time. ;)

Maybe a world where Australia goes Republican?

Make the Haida/Queen Charlotte Islands a separate territory from British Columbia. Done. :D:p

Edit-In all seriousness, though, I agree with Iserlohn to some extent; one of Britain's South Pacific possessions might be the best option.

Hmmm.. ASB option is as beedok implies.

Britain decides to give a giant finger to Maoist China by handing over Canada Hong Kong. In equally implasuivle territory, Macao is also gifted to Canada by Portugal. :p
