AHC: British Stalin

Have any of you read Harry Turtledove's short story "Joe Steele?" It's about Stalin's parents emigrating to the United States, and Stalin (here called Joe Steele) becomes president of the United States after he has FDR assassinated. I want you to write a similar story, but where Stalin's parents immigrate to the UK instead of the US.

I think that was an Australian film about this set in in Australia in modern times. Geoffrey Rush played the husband of an Australian activist who sleeps with Stalin in '53 and has a son with him.

In April 1878, 28 year old cobbler, Besarion Jughashvili is arrested, in a drunken state after he vandalized a local tavern and attacked the village police chief, who later died from internal bleeding.
He is given two options life in prison or perminent exile from Russia. The alcoholic chooses he would rather live in another countrg drinking alcohol than living in a prison in his native nation sober.
So in May 1878, Besarion Jughashvili and his pregnant wife, Ketevan Geladze are placed on the first ship out of Batumi.
It so happened that this ship was heading to London, England, landing in the area of Tower Hamlets, a month later.

In 1878, London was rift with immigrants, but also rift with xenophobia, fearing that their name could hinder their chances, Besarion Jughashvili changed his name to Bernard Irons, the surname was based on the material he would come to work with when he joined the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company.

On 11th December 1878, Catherine (Ketevan) gave birth to a healthy baby boy, who was named Joseph after the doctor who helped deliever the child, so began the life of Joseph Irons.

However a year later, tragedy struck when Bernard, was killed in an industrial accident that happened at work, it was later found out that Bernard was working while drunk.

This left Catherine, having to work and care for her son alone, meaning that young Joseph would follow his mother while she was cleaning the houses of rich bankers, businessmen and politicians.
When he was old enough he would help her do cleaning, until 1894, when he turnt 16 and began working for the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company.
While at the company, Irons, went through being known as "Russian Joe" or simply Joe by his colleges, a nickname he would use at informal meetings (He will famously ask 33rd President Robert A. Taft to allow Iron to call Taft "Bert")

With in six years he was selected as the Leader of the Union for the workers of 'Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company.' A position he took serious and would stay as for 14 years when he is drafted for world war one.

In 1915, a year after training in the army, he was commissioned as an officer in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, serving in France and North Russia during the First World War, many believe his experience in North Russia, strenghtened his socialist views.

After the war he did not just want to be the leader of a few hundred workers, he wanted to be the leader of a united force of workers in Britain, and was first elected to Parliament in 1918 as the Labour Member of Parliament for Bethnal Green South West, he rose quickly to become a minister in the minority government led by Ramsay MacDonald in 1924, working with MacDonald in the Ministery of Foreign Affairs.

In 1931, after the Labour Party had suffered a heavy election defeat, he was elected Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, beating his fellow London politician Clement Attlee.
Four years later, he became the Leader of the Labour Party after the (mysterious) death of George Lansbur and at the same time is Opposition Leader, the last to hold this office.

In 1936, the country was in crises, after King George V dies aged 70, with his eldest son, Edward, Prince of Wales succeeds as King Edward VIII, Prime minister Stanley Baldwin confronts King Edward VIII about his relationship with Wallis Simpson, while Wallis Simpson divorces Ernest Aldrich Simpson, removing the legal barrier to her marrying Edward VIII.
As opposition leader, Irons was demanding the devolution of the monarchy, which was gaining support from the working classes of Britain.

On 2nd December, with demands for both their removals King Edward, his three brothers, his sister and thier families leave Britain for Canada where, Canadian Prime Minister, William Lyon Mackenzie King, welcomes them.
Meanwhile British Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin, resigns with Joseph Irons becoming the first President of Great Britain.

Joseph Irons, wearing his world war one, officer's hat, plain cotten shirt, while smoking his pipe.
In 1938, President Irons met with Soviet leaders, Vyacheslav Molotov and Leon Trotsky, to discuss the "German Situation" and began secret deals that would see the two nations unite against the spread of Nazism, without the involvement of the United States.

And so began in 1939, the Nazi invasion of Poland. Britain and Russia declared war on Germany and began an onslaughter which would see Hitler captured in 1941 and Germany governed under the friendly leader, Wilhelm Pieck.

On the 5th March 1963, President Irons died at the strong age of 84, inside the Buckingham Presidential House. He was succeeded by his protégé, Harold Wilson, who was said to have continued Irons, casual look all the way through his seventeen years reign.

I said infobox, not article, but this is nice too.

He would probably start using those names like he did "Stalin" in OTL.

He used "Stalin" as a nom de guerre as a revolutionary. Just like Lenin did. And Trotsky. People just don't DO that in settled countries.

I'd guess it is more likely his name (rather his parents' name) gets anglo-mangled to "Judge" or something. Judgevalley? Jugsvalley?

But in 1880s immigrants didnt spend time looking for similarities in their to English words, they simply changed their name to fit into the area. Irons is not an unusual name but at the same time not common.
