AHC: British New England after the revolution

Using any POD after 1837, make New England part of the British Empire (part of Canada is fine). Bonus points if the USA is still largely intact.

For a POD before 1837, you can have a general decrease in relations if you must.

Why would the birthplace of the Revolution so suddenly rejoin the British, if not by force?
And were the British to conquer such a significant portion of the young United States, why not conquer the other part?
Normally I accept AHCs on their face, but this one requires too much-- the character death of my people.

The British didn't want New England in 1837, nor did New England want to leave the USA, let alone rejoin the British Empire.

I'm going to call ASB on this one

I thought as much, just wanted to try it out.

Is there any chance post 1777?

Although I must add

It doesn't have to be in 1837.

You asked for 1837 or later, any POD that late won't work.

I don't think any POD at all will work actually, I'm not fantastic with American history but weren't the New England states the ones with the largest push for independence?

Boston and New York etc...

What you could have is an independent New England (Hartford Convention, 1815) that is closely aligned and friendly with the British. That's plausible, still a bit difficult but it can happen.

Does it need to be all of New England? Ethan Allen Attempted to sell Vermont to the British while it was the Republic of Vermont.

I would need to change your premise and say that the POD could be during the war of 1812. A split so device happens in the US that New England separates from US.

Great Britain befriends them while at same time USA become hostile towards New England. GB offers them protection from the bad southern neighbour. This continues for next few decades and then in the 1850s they and several of the British Colonies for a new nation. I don't know lets be inventive and call it Dominion of Canada.

What if Britain manages to hold onto the colonies apart from New England... would an independent New England be even economically viable... especially if New York was still part of the Anglo-American Empire?

Though this probably ASB, because if Britain can hold down the rest of the colonies it can probably crush New England.
