Throw in an Anglo-Prussian dynastic union, and we're really getting somewhere.... :D

This is the only way you stand a chance (there actually are a couple of TLs on this theme floating around the board) - though even then of course it's the German part of the union doing most of the heavy lifting on the conquest side of things.

I am not entirely sure. People at the time had fears. Advocates of Napoleon's Continental System (then and up to the present day) have argued that it was the only thing that prevented all of Europe's manufacturing base being wiped out by a tide of cheap British imports. There were also Russians at around the same period (admittedly in the pro-French camp) who feared that Britain might do to Russia what they had done in India.

But then an "Indian" style imperialism is not quite what the original poster was asking for.
