AHC: Britain gains territory from the Falklands War

How about this as a consideration. Argentina had claimed a portion of the Antarctic that was virtually the sam as the British claim. In talks early on in the crisis the Argentine position was that Britain would waive all claims not just to the Falklands and South Georgia Islands but also to the Antarctic territories as well.

After the British victory have the UK turn around and demand Argentina give up their claims in the Antarctic. And send some Royal Marines to those Argentine outposts, expel any residents and hoist up the Union Jack.

They did re occupy the South Sandwich Islands after the war which Argentina had claimed and had put a outpost on for several years.

This is impossible...the only way for uk obtain something would be for the Argentinean to keep pressing attacks but:
A) the Argentinians had exhausted their military and political capital when otl the war ended
B) had the Argentinians been that stubborn they would have received a phone call for Mr. Reagan
C) otoh had the British been so stupid as to grab land, they would have received a phone call from Mr. Reagan.
Long story short, grabbing land, would have been widely unpopular for the Brits, and highly destabilizing for the whole of South America

I see lots of dead and injured Argentines, soldiers and civilians, showing up on TVs across the globe, British bodybags pictured in the Globe, protests throughout the world, with the UK coming off as a bully.

Thatcher is not that stupid.

After careful consideration...

...I have to admit that the only feasible extension of hostilities would be to evict the Argentine from every Antarctic base it possesses for the duration of hostilities. The British Antarctic Survey cannot afford to staff them, however.

IIRC China acquired land from India in the 1960s, but was not made to hand it back. Double standards abound in the UN.

All the UK needed to do was prolong fighting a few more months until the Argentine military junta is deposed.

To ease RN logistical problems, Southern Air Transport flies “humanitarian” cargo supply missions out of a West African nation. Some their aircraft are retired USAF KC-135s while others are old civilian Boeing 707s with mysterious pods hanging from their wings. Some observers speculated that pods were made Flight Refuelling Inc.

US Navy supply ships “jettison” millions of tons of petroleum, food and ammunition in the South Atlantic.
US Navy KB-3 and KS-3 Viking squadrons exercise vigorously in the South Atlantic.

Tried of squabbles over Tierra del Fuego, the United Nations declares it a nature preserve with only enough rocks and airports to support the tourist trade. An “international
rugby tournament” promptly dominates TdF with some teams arriving months early to train.

I know that the UK has, but given the large over sea transit time and the limited tankers that the RAF had available during the War how easy would it have been to get them down there? As for "ending the war on their terms", they have, they've retaken the Falklands and the ability for Argentina to mount a second attempt against a now defended island is nil. They wouldn't have to expose the fleet and ground forces to a much more dangerous follow on invasion on the mainland.

The deployment of F4 in OTL came after the war when the runway had been extended. So time would be needed and the Argentina's Air Force would be able to go toe to toe with RN if RN actually get closer to the mainland before the F4 arrived.

Well its more of the fact that UN is basically powerless. Look at what Russia just did in Crimea. If you are one of the major powers, there's absolutely nothing the UN can do against you. Sure, if the US or Russia or China decides to put pressure on and force you to back down in the "name" of the UN, it might happen, but that's not the UN doing anythings, its great power politics. Finally, the UK sits on the security council permanently so it can veto any resolution against it....so yea...lol

Oh, I know! Have Chile cede some disputed islands to the UK, and let THEM defend them from Argentina.

Seriously, Britain wasn't looking for more land, and had no reason to demand any.

Perhaps a better question would be whether it would be possible for Britain to coerce Argentina into officially renouncing its claims after the war in any realistic and feasible manner?

Hm, maybe Britain gets Argentinas claim in the Arctic?

Arctic? You mean the Antarctica, I presume. That would disturbing the status quo on territory claim and sovereignty claim which is signified by the Antarctic Treaty System which had 56 signatories, including all major powers, important southern countries and many developes countries. Any unilaterial attempt to change the status quo would highly unwise.
