AHC: Britain flees to the 13 Colonies

I remember reading that france tried to invade england in the 7 years war, maybe they can succeed in that and the king flees to philadelphia?

France invades during the Seven years, this is a nightmare scenario for the British. If one of the Georges (depending on when in the war the invasion happens) makes it to say Philadelphia, you have substantially changed the course of history.

The curious dichotomy is that for England to fall the navy must suffer massive defeat, or be elsewhere at the time and unable to come back. When Portugal fell by land, the royal family escaped in the fleet. Of course, the Portuguese fleet was but a fraction of the size of the British, so I guess it is acceptable for the royal family to escape on a RN squadron. BUT if the French and allies control the seas there are only two courses of action - EITHER they leave from London or Bristol then go NORTH round Scotland on the one case, round Ireland on the other, OR the royal family withdraws North as the French army advances, and is able to leave from whatever Northern ports exist in this timeframe. I guess the RN squadron doesn't HAVE TO dock so they could take cutters to the big ships waiting off shore.

This is a good point, if the French are able to take naval superiority away from the British in such a way that an invasion of the home islands is enough of a concern that the royal family has to flee the war is over. The moral and strategic blow on the British war effort would be catastrophic, they've lost the war. If France wins, and the British monarchs have fled, it's possible that a new house (with French backing) is going to take over (i.e. the Stuarts). The Old Pretender is put on the throne, with French support, this is probably not going to be popular and so he spends the rest of his reign dealing with internal strife. When his son ascends to the throne who knows if he can hold it, even with French help? Maybe the cost of garrisoning Britain and keeping Charles III on the throne is to much of a cost to bear and the French Revolution still happens? This would be an interesting historical development, you could see a republican Europe casting off it's royal families and forcing them to relocate to their colonies. Is it feasible? Perhaps not, but, it's an interesting idea for a timeline.
