I need some ideas for a timeline I'm thinking of writing. Your challenge, if you wish, is, with a POD no later than 1965, to have the nation of Brazil jump into the Falklands conflict. As for their role, I was thinking they would annex some territory in Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, or the Caribbean. They were suffering from many of the same problems Argentina was at the time (failing economy, debt, inflation, restive population). They fit the profile of a country that could potentially do what the Argentinian junta did, solving internal problems with violent, external, nationalistic solutions. If Britain had suffered a military defeat (I dunno, maybe the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo sorties successfully and is able to sink or damage enough of the task force that it is forced to turn around for England or Ascension, and the British lose their shot at retaking the Falklands that year), and the U.S. doesn't overtly jump in, could that embolden them enough? Their leadership OTL in 1982 seems to have been more sensible than Argentina's, so there's a good chance that at least would have to be changed, though bonus points will be awarded if you can skate on that.
Might well be ASB, but I wanted to hear what you guys had to say about it.
Have at it
