AHC: Bloodier American Revolution

This is my first thread, so if I'm being a complete idiot, tell me.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to make the American Revolution have levels of violence similar to the French Revolution.

You have two times to find a PoD:

1) During the Revolution itself
or
2)During the early days of the USA, in which factional tensions ran high and people were afraid of something French Revolution-ish in the USA.

Bonus points if Guillotines are used.

Simply spread the levels of loyalist organization and inter-American bushwhacking that occurred in the South in OTL to the rest of the 13 colonies.

Is there any way to make the violence of the French Revolution manifest itself in the early USA as pro-states rights anger?

Think you just don't have the same caliber ideological fire breathers available in N. America. Nor did you have the extreme levels of political disenfranchisement or extreme clericalism. The stakes just weren't as high in the Americas for that kind of bloodletting.

In the South things did get pretty violent and personal. That kind of savage backwoods warfare probably needs two things, 1: A successful, significant campaign that encourages loyalist turnout in order to create the divisions and desire for revenge that helped fuel the war in the South. Something like the British holding New Jersey and pushing towards Philadelphia, instead of being pushed back by the Trenton campaign. 2: More divisiveness within and between the colonies over the issues causing the ATL revolution. This was mainly a war about property and the Rights of Englishmen, not utter destitution and absolute despotism like the French Revolution was. Otherwise you simply aren't going to get the level of loyalist support in places like New England and Pennsylvania as there was in the OTL South.
