AHC: Black Speaker of the House

After the appointment of Mo Cowen to the Senate, I looked at the (so-far) only 8 Black Senators, compared to the many Black Representatives. So my challenge to you is, get one of the many Black Reps into the Speaker of the House. Only post 1900 due to the lack of long serving men in the House.

Well, Henry Ford Jr. made a run for the post back in 07, the same election that gave Pelosi the post. If she didn't make the run, or made a misstep, he would have been the most likely choice, I think.

Clyburn makes the most sense. William Gray is also a possibility, assuming he stayed in the House and was willing to work his way up the leadership ladder. If Ford had stayed in the House he would have had a chance in the future.
