AHC: Balkanization/Seperation of Russian Federation

Hey there, long time lurker and first time poster.

Either way, here's your challenge. Either aggressively or peacefully separate the Russian Federation as it stands today. POD is anywhere after the 1900s ( preferably modern 1980 - 2014 ). True hostility between all new nations is optional, perhaps some could even like each other enough to become allies.

Here is the map I would like for you to emulate, made by an old acquaintance of mine;

We had threads like this before and one of the issues is that some of the low-populated regions in the interior might not make viable countries.

That being said, I wonder if Siberia as a whole could (theoretically) become independant and have its own identity?

Understandable, which is why I like this plan...

A whole Siberian nation ( #20, #22-#30 ) would be approximately 40 million people. Would this be a sustainable population for a nation so large? The smaller, western nations should each have comfortable populations.

Id say the best way to do this would be to break off the caucuses from the rest of Russia. After that nothing more can really be broken off. Maybe Vladivostok, Sakhalin, and the Kurils could declare independence for some reason and Russia using them as a deal to end the dispute over Sakhalin while retaining influence. Otherwise Russia is pretty hard to break up more.

I think there are a few too many divisions here, and does every single nation have to have 'republic' somewhere in its name?
