AHC: Bahmani Sultanate territory that of otl Mughal Empire

I do not know enough of Indian history to say how this would be possible. I would however like to know what effects this would have on the Sub continent and how it would occur.

I guess I liked the sound of the Shah of Hindustan who claimed lineage to the mythical Bahman. Further it would be interesting to see a major Islamic state arising out of Southern India.

EDIT: By Bahman, I am referring to the mythical king Kay-Bahman of Iranian legend

By bahman do you mean Brahman?
If so, through out most Indian history, Brahman's were happy enough to take a backseat and let the Ksatriya caste dominate government, whilst Brahmans were involved in priestly matters.

If you want that to change, around the period that the Mughals would have risen, the best possible POD would be to have the Hindu general Hemu defeat Akhbar at the Second Battle of Panipat and take the throne of Delhi. Hemu apparently was of relatively low status background, so assuming he takes a Brahman wife, his descendants would most likely label themselves as Brahmans for prestige purposes.

Hemu's empire could have expanded from Punjab, through the Hindi belt, to Bengal, which is the area that was designated as Mughalistan.

From my limited knowledge of the topic I see Delhi as the key. If the Bahmani take control over Delhi the rest of the area will fall in line.

In order to do this they would need to find a way to peacefully replace or forcibly remove the Sayyid Dynasty from power in Delhi. It is a possible scenario, the Marathas were originally from the same general area as the Bahmani and they succeeded in expanding north to take Delhi.

Hmm true, if the Maratha could, then I wouldn't see why the Bahmani couldn't. I actually hadn't thought of the Maratha in this scenario. I wonder too, how a more southern oriented state would be as a hegemony over India, would it possibly more trade oriented? I wonder if there are some on the site with a more categorical knowledge on Indian history to assist in this scenario.

I think the Bahmani's had to deal Vijayanagara, which is where you saw the strongest Hindu resistance to the south.
