AHC: Awesome Ultraman Live-Adaptation Film

In the wake of so many classic series revamp/reboot/adaptations, someone got an idea to revive Ultraman series from Japan.

How to make it succesful? Both to fans and to people who just want to see a great movie?

The director? The casts? The design? The story?
Any element is welcomed.

My take is to have Baltan as the villain, with less man-in-rubber-suit design and darker origin story.

Thanks in advance!

Ultraman. That takes me back. My father was assigned to a military base in Japan in the 1969 and he was able to bring the family. So I would spend Saturday night watching Japanese Television, One of the Series that I loved was Ultraman. I saw episodes of the original series, Ultra Seven, Return of Ultraman and Ultraman Ace while I was there. I did not understand the language but I could tell what was going on.

Producer Peter Jackson.

For Director how about Shusuke Kaneko. He did the Gamera Trilogy and the Godzilla film GMK Giant Monster All Out Attack. He went to film school in Texas so he speak English.

He would bring with either Shinji Higuchi who did the Special Effects on the Gamera Trilogy or Makoto Kamiya who did his Godzilla Film. (Or Both)

They would work with Weta Digital to do the effects.

Would recommended a international Cast for the Science Patrol.
How about Colin Salman as the head?
I assume you want a Asian as Shin Hayata, (I basing this on the First series. Still my favorite.) How about Takuya Kimura, who was the lead in the live action Space Battleship Yamato?

You would also need a Guest star role for Susumu Kurobewho play Shin in the first Ultraman Series.

There are some suggestion for Cast and Crew.

Unfortunately, any hint of such a thing will have Warner Brothers shooting off a cease and desist order unless they are given the distribution rights, after all, they will claim to own the name due to the Earth-3 DC Comics "Supply Side" (i.e. photo negative) version of Superman.

Not necessarily. WB Japan distributed this monster mash: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Monster_Battle:_Ultra_Galaxy

Also, WB/Legendary Pictures currently are making a new Godzilla movie. If/ When it is a hit (and I certainly hope so), They or another film studio with ties to Japan may proposition Tsuburaya about bringing the Ultra family back to the states.

Besides, not everyone knows about the DC multiverse and the different worlds. Remember when DC made the Earth 2 Green Lantern Alan Scott gay? Everyone thought it was Hal Jordan until someone actually did some research.

It would certainly make my son and I very happy. I watched the original series as a child and purchased the DVD set when it came out. He knows all of the episodes and can name every monster. You might have quite a few people who saw the shows in the US in the 70's bringing their kids or grand kids to see the movie. On top of that, you would have the early 30 something and 20 something Power Ranger fans who would certainly enjoy something like this.

No, they wouldn't. The Japanese version has been in the US at least since the early 1970s when I used to watch it as a kid and there have been no law suits from it. The two characters are very different and there is no way anyone would confuse the two of them.

Well, the creators can use a more simple names, like
I don't, "Ultra"
Yeah, just "ULTRA" in a simplistic, metallic font

Then the sequel can add something in the back.

Can an American (dammed Americans!) adaptation be done instead of cooperation?
I hope there won't be too much action and NO story.

the thing is that without the campiness, you might actualy lose some of your fan base. I remember going to the fant-asia film festival in montreal back in the 90s and people didn't go see daikaju flicks for the dramatic acting and brilliant special effects.

Soo...
Just for nostalgia?
