There would have been no emergency if there was no Alahabad High Court order setting aside the election of Indira Gandhi to the Lok Sabha. If the Court had upheld the election of Indira Gandhi and dismissed the petition of Raj Narayan, Indira Gandhi would not have felt any fear of loss of power and hence adopting drastic measures to save her chair. The emergency was declared with the sole intention of securing the post of the Prime Minister for her.
