AHC: As war torn New World as possible.

With a POD in 1776, create a scenario wherein from 1776-1900, the New World from Canada to Argentina/Chile is as war torn as possible.

Yes, war torn may be a term that can be flimsy or deceptive, however we will take it to mean what it typically refers to. That is, lands frequently or constantly engulfed in war or rebellion.

Preferably, the nations will be greatly fractured in this strife.

How would this scenario occur and what would be the effects on the Old World?

You could have the Spanish successfully intercept Lewis and Clark. They tried to do that in OTL and missed them in one instance by just two weeks. I don’t think it would be hard to spin a Spanish-American war over the Louisiana Territoru out of that.

I’d imagine that the US would lose that war, no? They barely managed status quo ante bellum with Britain ten years later, and that was with the Brits distracted by Napoleon.

Let me think...

Have the US constitutional convention fail and the different states go their separate ways afterwards (and eventually get into wars over things that IOTL were settled by the Federal US government, like border conflicts). In South America, have a weaker Buenos Aires leading to the other OTL Argentine provinces going independent. Destroy Chile so they don't become a strong regional power (maybe an unlucky earthquake destroys Santiago de Chile). Have the rebellions in Brazil be successful and disintegrate it. Then let shit happen naturally.
