AHC: As many independent nations in North America as possible

Have the Confederates win in 1861 and the British keep hold of more of the northern states which become an independent country later.

1. Let Constitution Convention fail on 1787 - 1788 and there is more independent nations.
2. Balkanised Mexico.
3. Surviving Republic of Texas, Republic of California and Deseret.
4. CSA wins civil war and USA break up totally afterwards and/or later there is Confederate Civil War where Texas and perhaps Kentucky and Virginia secede.

And you can get independent Quebec any time when it is possible.

In addition to those mentioned, the Canadian Maritime provinces had a lot of opposition to confederation in the 1860s. They could have gone their own way.

The challenge is to have as many independent nations in North America by 2017 with a POD no later than July 4th, 1776.

The US fails to develop a proper constitution and splits up into 13 different countries.

Canada colonised as per OTL, but without the need to defend against US invasion never Confederates. When the Canadian provinces get their independence, they do so as a series of separate countries, rather than as one big Canada.

No USA means no Louisiana Purchase, so this area either remains a French colony and gets independence later, or gets conquered by the British, and gets independence later, possibly as a series of little colonies a la Canada.

California splits off from Mexico and becomes independent. Mexico balkanises somehow.

Hmmm....
Here's my idea:
1. Earlier (and successful) Roanoke Colony in the late 16th century, with OTL Wilmington as the possible site.
2. Puritans in Delaware/Delmarva Peninsula
3. Jesuit missionaries (accompanied by their assistants) succesfully converted the native Americans in the OTL American Southwest (e.g. Pueblos and Kiowas)
4. English-speaking Quakers settling territories east of Delaware River; German-speaking Quakers settling the western banks.
5. Stronger New Netherlands.
to be continued....

Spanish Florida remains Spanish and ends up an independent republic.

Miskito Coast remains British and gains independence in the 1970s.

Haiti remains divided. (unlikely)

Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands become independent. Could be that the Danish retain control over their Virgin Islands until independence.

Basically any Carribean country that is not independent now could become independent.

British Dominion in Oregon.

Independent Newfoundland

Independent Prince Edward Island

In Mexico, you can get independent California (w/ OTL Baja California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah, independent Texas (French immigrants this time, w/OTL New Mexico and Colorado), independent Rio Grande, independent Yucatan, independent Chiapas, possibly an independent Sonora too.

I am deeply disappointed that no one proposed Native Americans polities.

Without the Louisiana purchase, the notion of manifest destiny does not take hold and the United States "ends" at the Mississippi River on the west. Louisiana and Arkansas remain French; Florida remains Spanish. More regions become dominated by Native Americans. The U.S. might find (unfortunately) a greater urgency to push natives westward and the "Trail of Tears" comes sooner. So, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota and other river-connected states might become one or more Native American nations.

With Louisiana as a French-speaking buffer, Americans show no desire to move into Texas. Texas and California remain republics.
