AHC: Aragon-Italy Rules The Mediterranean!

So, after partaking in some half dozen alternate history challenges, I have decided to do my own. The goal of this challenge is to have Aragon remain independent, gain all of modern Italy except perhaps Venice, and then gain control over half or more of the Mediterranean. Do not set the POD any earlier than 1440. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me them.

I am bumping this. I would deeply appreciate it if somebody would have the kindness to respond with any TL or even to say this is implausible. I think I sound like I want it customized, where I would prefer your open style. Anyways, please do say something.

Isabella of Castille is a boy. Aragon inherits Milan. Tuscany is made a vassal. They defeat the French and Austrians in the Italian wars.

Isabella does not need to be a boy, but yes, the Iberian marriage need to be avoided, and Castile be kept rather weak. Or if Isabella lose out in the power struggle in Castile and never get the throne (in that case she can still marry Ferdinand, but I have a feeling that would only lead to an Aragonese invasion of Castile to push her claims).

You don't even need to avoid the Iberian Wedding. After Isabella died Ferdinand re-married and tried to get a son who he could leave Aragon to, just have this succeed and the Kingdoms won't be united.

There's already the Habsburg Marriage between Joanna and Philip at this point, so Castille will still be going to the Habsburgs, but the Habsburgs will be more likely to recognize Aragon in return for support against France.

At this point Aragon is already Ruler of a decent portion of the Mediterranean, including Sicily, with a claim on Naples that would historically be resolved in their favor and I see no reason why that wouldn't also happen here. Aragon supports Imperial Wars against France in return for being supported in their claim on Naples.

Getting Northern Italy may be more difficult because Spain seized that by virtue of Charles V being Emperor, which is a claim Aragon won't have, but there's always time for various Marriages to happen.

Here's a hint: Aragon could get married into a different HRE royal line. *cough Wittelsbach and Hohenzollern cough*. Terrible cough I have here, isn't it?;)

Thande has the "Kingdom of the Three Sicilies" be a major Mediterranean power in LTTW.
Could you go more into detail? Remember to keep in mind my rules in the OP. I would appreciate it deeply if you managed to get a paragraph or two out of this nice-sounding idea of yours. The idea is quite original. I, personally, like the kingdom's name.
Attention, everyone. Whoever wins gets one. Free. Cookie.

Don't forget that if Ferdinand and his second wife's son had lived, he would have inherited an Aragon that would have broken off from the Spain we assume his first marriage had created.

Best Regards

The main problem with that is the lack of proper care given to the boy, and he would likely be hated by both Spanish nationalists and Isabellino forces in Aragon at the time.

Sure is Europa Universalis 4 in here...

I have fantasized long about Aragon->Italy. Alfonso V wanted Naples to be the capital of his Mediterranean empire, so the ambition was definitely there. Basically his successors need to not be halfwits and, as was said, the 'Iberian Wedding' (it wasn't actually called that, guys) needs to not happen.

La Beltraneja suceeds in Castille, freeing Ferdinand up to marry his niece, Joanna of Naples, in due time. In return for rejecting Isabella Ferdinand has peaceful relations with Portugal and Castille. His take-over of Naples is peaceful and paves the way for increased east-ward focus in his reign: perhaps a daughter still marries Arthur/Henry Tudor and opens the door for the oft-planned, oft-delayed crusade to liberate the Holy Land. Obviously a crusade would fail, but maybe pockets of land can be taken in Greece and along the Med. Patronizing the Sforza allows Ferdinand to extend his authority northward, paving the way for Aragonese domination of Milan and the Papal States.

This is quite good. You will win the cookie unless a better choice is in by December 28 11:59 P. M. Greenwich time.

I did not know that - any other ambitions he had for such a Kingdom?

I am super late. Sorry, guys. The challenge is over, and our winner is Velasco. I guarantee the deliverance of your cookie before it is 2015 in Greenwich. However, if someone makes a better entry before then, they would win two cookies.
