AHC: Another network besides the Internet

We all know, OTL, the main network in the Internet, where our beloved AH.com is.

The challenge is to make another network emerge as a mean to convey infos and messages, which could concurrence or even replace. with a POD later than the 1950s.

The main concurrent could be the Videotex, very widespread in France but a failure in other countries.

Could the Minitel have taken root in other countries? Ireland and Italy had pretty develloped network but commercual failures because the equipments weren't given for free (as in France in the beginning) but sold/rented.

WI cybercrime gets started earlier, and the Internet bears the brunt? Would you see more people turning to different operating systems for greater security?

Replacement's not gonna happen. *Minitel, or something like it, may perhaps become more successful with the right PODs, but the Internet became dominant for a very good reason.....or should I say, several. Even in the early days of the Digital Age, even the best possible *Minitel simply could not replace the Internet, and it would fall out of favor eventually.
