I'm not an expert in USA of this era but I find the character of Horace Greeley most interesting. He seems to be quite progressive and the embodiment of the American Dream. I was wondering whether thanks to his influence he can become President and make a significant difference. I'm imagining an 1860 Republican Convention that becomes increasingly divided and decides to go with Greeley and so takes the role of Lincoln or he becomes Lincoln's VP. Would President Greeley have an earlier emancipation proclamation or if elected post-war handled reconstruction differently.
