AHC: An Italian Anschluss

I'm not sure if such an event has already been addressed on this forum, but what if Greece was somehow convinced or pressured into being annexed by Italy around the time of Germany's Anschluss of Austria?

With a POD at any time in the XX century, the challenge is to place both countries in a situation where Italy would attempt and succeed to make an "Anschluss" of Greece. The motivations for this union can vary, ranging from military/industrial dominance to a supposed cultural identity between their people. Racial/genetic identity can also be used as a motivation, in a similar fashion of the "Aryan race".

Bonus points if the pretext of the union is to form a new roman empire. Good luck!

The Austrians saw themselves as being German since they spoke German, and there had been previous movements for Austria to join Germany since the 1840s, with the interference of the Allies preventing such a thing from happening after world war 1, even though both Nations wanted it. Greeks and Italians don't speak a common language on even a superficial level like the Germans, in which many German dialects could be considered their own separate language, so there can't be an "anschluss" between Greece and Italy since they don't even directly boarder each other, like Germany and Austria.

At best you could get is cultural identity belonging to the Romans originally but considering the Italians are largely born of literal barbarians and the Greeks are more or less the heirs of Rome The Idea, you get cut short on that, too. There's no common language, no common culture, nor even a common religion.
