AHC: American Peru

One interesting way to do this is to have Peru offer to join the US: many places, such as Sicily have tried historically due to the prosperity and global dominance of the US. The hard part is getting America to take this seriously and accept the proposal; maybe have a president who grew up in Peru (of course they would have to be born in the US, but they could have moved to Peru in their early childhood.

Have some mad fascist guy make Peru join the Axis in WWII. The US has to invade to protect US pacific shipping.

It takes about a few days since this guy fucked up the economy and the population welcome the US with open hands.

Increase regional integration in the Americas, something which is pushed for early on and led by the United States (it won't work without it). Things come together so that the subordinate governments of Latin America, cowed by American imperialism and economic might, eventually vote to become states of the new American Union, which is dominated by the United States. Does that count?

If not, then build the conditions for a communist revolution in the United States and when the Great Depression hits, America becomes a communist state and begins to openly support communist movements throughout Latin America. The American communist movement gains a pan-American touch to it, as do other communist movements (including the Peruvians), and it becomes necessary to free the Western Hemisphere from capitalist imperialism by making one state. The new United Socialist States of America will annex Peru eventually in its conquest of the Western Hemisphere. The USSA is still dominated by US-Americans, much as Russia OTL dominated the Soviet Union.

Have the US go to war with Peru, and have a military occupation last a couple of decades- possibly because of guerrilla efforts. Under the right circumstances Peru could be economically and politically developed that it could become a territory. The OP does not require for Peru to become a state, and Territories are incorporated and bound to US law.

In before the PC crowd says "Peru is Already part of America"

Hope this isn't disingenuous, but why would the US want Peru apart from whatever extractable resources it might have? And I have to wonder if those same resources couldn't be had more easily elsewhere?
