AHC: American Godzilla series

the challenge is: after the 1962 film, an american series of godzilla films are produced, whilst the japanese films also continue

Problem is, this is the 1960's, and a guy running around in a rubber suit, will make it a B movie automatically. I think that if and American had gained the rights in the late 70's, an American adaptation of Godzilla could've been successful, but only after the Japanese films had given them popularity.

i figured the american series would switch over to stopmotion

Here's the plot for the first proposed American Godzilla movie: http://www.kaijuphile.com/rodansroost/scrapyard/godzilla3d.shtml

Now of course this would only work as single picture unless some changes are made...

"Godzilla (Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956)) was the most masterful of all dinosaur movies because it made you believe it was really happening." This was a quote from Steven Spielberg.

So, let's have Spielberg takeover as producer and make some changes

-The ending is changed so that when the parent Godzilla dies, it's energy passes to the baby Godzilla and brings it back to life (this happened in one movie actually :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_vs._Destoroyah) as a fully developed adult Godzilla.

- Have Stan Winston work on spfx, using animatronics and cgi, which were available then and soon would be used on the first Terminator.

-Redo William Stout's drawings to make Godzilla look more like his original sense while still being "cool"

-If costs are too high, then can the 3D early

-Perhaps replace Steve Miner with Richard Donner, who worked wonders with the Superman movie (see verisimilitude)

-MERCHANDISING!!!!

With Spielberg on board, the big studios will be more willing to bankroll this and give it the budget and publicity it needed.

Release it in 1984 in time for the 30th anniversary, and if all goes right, you've got a hit.

After the money rolls in, Toho will be amicable about licensing more characters.

Ok, now I'm dreaming of ILM making a Mechagodzilla :D

bump...would like to see other opinions

That's a toughy...maybe ET fails or is cancelled or Lucas decides to take a break from Star Wars.

Spielberg and Lucas would be the most marketable choices. James Cameron and Ridley Scott would be good directors.

Producers? Dear God anybody but those assholes Jon Peters and Peter Gruber
