How about this one - Benedict Arnold becomes president of the US and George Washington becomes a foot-note in history?
I actually had a planned timeline for this to happen (which is my namesake).
The PoD would be George Washington being at Fort Washington when the British, under Howe, sieged and destroyed it, killing him and throwing the Continental Army into disarray.
Out of this chaos, Benedict Arnold faced more resistance and his men had lower moral heading into the campaigns to the north, making him have to do more to succeed and thus gain the recognition stolen from him by his commander. The Continental Congress would appoint this young, wild, brilliant commander as Commander-in-Chief and US history would be changed forever.
Arnold grew up with a drunk for a father and his family name a local mockery. Obsessed with glory and seemingly incredibly impatient and brash, I can hardly imagine what kind of an affect he would have on the presidency.
Edit: To add to this, there are some aspects of his presidency that I think could be absolutely fascinating.
Firstly, in the divide between Hamiltonian Federalists and Jeffersonian Democratic-Republicans, Arnold would definitely be a Federalist, but Jefferson’s appeals to the rural people and rugged individualism would appeal to Arnold far more than Washington.
I have a feeling his presidency would become a balancing act between (potentially VP?) Hamilton’s policy goals and (potential Sec of State?) Jefferson’s. Not in a centrist way, but in a flip-flop way. His presidency would probably institute the following: support low taxes and a central bank, subsidize proto-industries in cities and national free trade
