I'm glad you saw my point about revolutionary dynamics, but let's not swing to the other extreme so fast. Yesterday you counted on so few socialists that they can't matter, now you're saying if they're so many, they either won't leave, or won't be accepted.Interesting fact: the Jacobians didn't emegrate en-mass overseas even after losing direct control of the reigns of power. If the socialists get large enough to become a major political force should they head to the US, than they have enough societal mass that a mass expulsion across the Atlantic is untenable and undesirable to the socialists themselves. Which is to say nothing of the impact a larger, faster influx of Germans would have on the local anti-immigrant sentiment, which if they're identified with socialism...
Well, yes, while that's certainly a possibility, there's obviously also some possible middle ground: enough socialists emigrate to the US to strengthen a socialist streak in US 1850s politics and give the debates of the day socialist interpretations as well as other ones which were prominent IOTL. Broadening the discourse this early can have far-reaching implications down the line, as industrial conflicts escalate.
btw, nice idea, @DTF955Baseballfan !
