AHC: Alternate Finance Capital

The challenge is, with a POD after 1900, make a stock market other than New York the financial barometer of the world. Bonus points if it's NOT London.

Hmm....Amsterdam springs to mind as a potential candidate now that those other two are excluded, but 1900 seems WAAY too late a POD for that to happen....

Easy OTL. Post-1945 New York has been bigger than London in terms of market cap only because of the size of the internal US market, as a "the financial barometer of the world" has been London been dominant since the 80's and prior to 1939. See this.

Now as you wanted somewhere other than London I would suggest Frankfurt with a German win in either WW1 or WW2 or Singapore/Hong Kong in the absence of Asia 40 lost years.

Since it's probably going to be in the United States, Chicago.

Otherwise, I'd say Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong.

What about Geneva, as it already had been a financial center, as well as an international haven for global issues for centuries. Besides that, Switserland as a whole has been a neutral and save haven for a long time, being stable and wealthy.

I'll hang a big ten-four on that, fellow Alternaut.

If the UK stays out of WW1, London is still the worlds financial capital. IMO, the British Empire last a lot longer if the UK is not weakened by WW1.

If the USA refuse to trade with the Entente and CP in WW1, then New York is not the world financial capital.
