AHC: African Black-Creole States

In the earlier days it was common for West African colonies to be mostly run by europenized blacks (often freed slaves, called Creols or Congos) and mullatos.
When medicine advanced this was roled back and the blacks were replaced with white officals.

How could there be more such states (in addition to Liberia)?
Could this modus-operandi survive till decolonialisation?

I think it could offer an interesting middle road between immediate one-man-one-vote-one-party and white minority rule. Maybe a gradualy
expandimg franchise tied to education and way of life.

Given Liberia's history, I don't think this would end very well. Americo-Liberians either did not care about or were actively hostile to Africans. The state they set up was incredibly predatory even by the standards of Africa.

On the other hand, it may not make a difference for some nations. There were African post-colonial leaders who were very cosy with the colonial government (Senegal's francophile Leopold Senghor comes to mind). Rule by a white minority, and rule by a creole minority on behalf of a white minority may not be that different. It all comes down to the ties of the creole minority to the people they rule. If they consider the colonial subjects their kin, instead of as ancestral enemies/a source of wealth like the Americo-Liberians, Africa would not do worse than it has.
