AHC: AFL totally supplants the NFL

Is what it says on the tin. The AFL NFL conflict in the 1960s ends with the AFL eventually driving the NFL out of business, perhaps with some remaining teams joining the AFL.

I take for granted that the competition would probably go into the seventies and perhaps eighties.

Possible PoDs.

Relations between Lamar Hunt and Tex Shramm are more acrimonious.
Hunt discredited after failed merger attempt.
Al Davis supported by the owners.
AFL more successful in hiring college draft picks.
Add whatever.

The AFL has successful franchises in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles and is able to out spend the NFL in signing the top college players and veteran players.
If the new teams are able to get better stadiums than the existing NFL teams such as the AFL Philadelphia team was to get the exclusive football rights to the new Veterans Stadium and keep the Eagles playing at Penn Stadium, and the Chicago AFL team get to use Soldier Field and the Bears has to keep using Wrigley Field, and this allows the AFL teams get more revenue the the NFL teams.

Another way is for the AFL to get a second television network contract for Monday Night Football.

The NFL had a couple of weak franchises in Pittsburgh and St. Louis and if the AFL-NFL war continues they would be in danger of being folded.

If the AFL was able to outshine the NFL, would they crush the USFL in the mid eighties or would the two leagues find a way to coexist?

Suppose the Rams, Eagles, Bears and one other team jumped to the AFL would that clinch the AFL's place in US sports?

What if the gambling/betting issues that got Hornung and Karras suspended for a year were a lot more serious and widespread? The AFL might be perceived as the 'cleaner' league.

You would probably need to have a way to hurt the NFL's revenue, since locally, NFL franchises would remain popular regardless of the quality of the AFL play relative to the NFL. Something like a poorly timed point shaving scandal could shake public confidence in the NFL and cause it to lose its TV deals. Maybe like OTL Hornung and Karras (betting on NFL games they were not playing in), but with proof that it was widespread and players were actually swinging games.
