The earliest british north american settlements had very strong religious components with the pilgrims and puritans and such. However by the time of the american revolution most of the founding fathers were deists who sought to keep some sort of separation between the state and religion.
Can anyone think of a scenario whereby some sort of mixture of religion and pseudo-nationalism could have evolved during the time of the revolution? whereby the founding fathers and the americans believed themselves to be sent on a mission from god to create a new independent republic? In addition to the otl reasons for the revolution. Maybe some ideas involving the fulfillment of biblical prophecy's to create a new land?
What impact would that have had on the later development of the US? Also a POD of date before 1700.
