AHC: A True World War

Can anyone think of a way from 1900-1950 there could have ever been a worldwide conflict with military engagements on all 6 inhabited continents i.e a "true" world war?

Clashing ideological blocks in S. America, Japanese invasions (or at least raids) on Australia, fighting between colonial forces in Africa.

For extra fun, make Hitler form research stations in Antarctica to discover links with the Aryan Super Race, guarded by fanatical SS. When the first Aryan baby is born in Antarctica, Hitler proclaims the station Neustuttgart (capital of Neuswabenland), and sends settlers, engaging in fishing and whaling.

Knowing Neustuttgart's isolation, Hitler orders vast quantities of ammo to be sent, hoping it can resist attack until the KM defeats Britain.

When war breaks out, a small British expedition from South Georgia waltz in expecting a quick victory. They're destroyed. By now Britain is under sustained attack and a Nazi antarctic base is its least worry.

Only after the US enters the war, is Neustuttgart captured.

Really, we pretty much have that. In OTL's WWII, you already had the War in Africa (North Africa, Ethiopia, Madagascar) and the Pacific War covering much of Oceania (New Guinea, etc), not to mention Japanese Raids on Australia (most famously in Darwin) and Alaska, or the Nazis attacking Canada.

So now you just need to find a way to bring the War to South America, and voila.

Doesn't the Battle of the Rio Platte count? (Or was that World War I?)

Unless I am wrong, WWII counts:

Europe: Many Battles
Asia: Many Battles
Africa: Many Battles
North America: The Aleutian Campaign
South America: The Battle of Rio Platte
Australia: The Darwin Raids

FWIW, although outside of the time frame, The Seven Years War also had fighting on all known continents; Australia and Antarctica not yet known to Europeans.

I think they want many battles on all six inhabited continents.

Well if you give WWII a South American front it's entirely possible, then every continent is involved in some capacity.

Do you mean ground battles? Because that would just exclude South America and maybe Australia (unless you count certain Pacific islands as being part of Oceania), but the Japanese straight-up invaded Alaska which is undoubtedly a part of North America and there were naval battles on the South American coast as well as bombings in Australia.

Yes, but any conflict in the Americas was marginal, and always an extension of naval operations. In order to have significant land-based action in the western hemisphere, you would need an Axis state in the Americas. The most likely candidates are Argentina and Brazil. If a large swath of South American territory fell to the Axis, it would open up another major theater of combat. Perhaps panzers on the pampas?

This scenario is set to happen in Jello_Biafra's Reds! TL. An Integralist Brazil signs a defense treaty w/ the Nazis and forms a New World Axis w/ Venezuela and Peru, all in response to the southward spread of socialism from the UASR. Not sure if there'll be any combat in Australia in that TL.

I look forward to seeing that war :D
