AHC: A stable Middle East without the Ottoman Empire

Your challenge is with a POD at any point after the fall of the Ottoman Empire to make the Middle East a stable region today.

I got 2 for you.

Have Israel Lose the War of 1948 or just not start it, which where all this current craziness started.

Or, have the British support the Hashimite Arabian Kingdom irredentism over the Wahhabist-Saud alliance during WW1.

Both on their own would have enough butterflies to create a far more stable Middle East

- Allow existence of Greater Syria under Hashemites.
- Destroy Sauds and Wahhabites.
- Let Persia develope as constitutional monarchy.
- Independent Kurdistan.

It absolutely is not, and that's a very facile viewpoint, if somewhat common.

In fact, a lack of Israel probably leads to an immediate 3-way conflict between Egypt, Syria, and Jordan over the spoils. Syria still wants to annex Lebanon, Lebanon is still half Christian and half Muslim. Jordan is still full of Palestinians not enormously enthusiastic about being under a bunch of Bedouins from the Hejaz. Also, Syria still wants to annex Jordan. Iraq is still part Shiite, part Sunni, part Kurd, and part Christian. They still want Kuwait. Saudi Arabia is still going to be both rich and Wahhabi.

Now, this might lead to stability in the short-mid term. Competent Hashemite kingdoms in Palestine, Syria, Iraq, and Nejd might be stable and would probably be solid enough to stabilize much of the region.
