AHC: A partition of Prussia after 1871?

Was there any realistic way to see Prussia get partitioned after 1871?

For the record, I am talking about a united Germany still remaining in this TL; rather, Prussia will simply get partitioned into several German states in order to end its overwhelming dominance within/inside of the German Empire.

Anyway, any thoughts on this?

Why would the King of Prussia destroy his own state?

Maybe we could see an administrative reform in the german empire after a CP victory in WWI. Though only if the victory comes late enough.

This would most likely recquire a unified movement of smaller states within the Empire to oppose Prussia's dominance. An early death of Bismarck might be enough to decrease Prussia's political might early on. You could have a stronger Pro-Prussian succeed Bismarck and be more adamant in his support of his Kingdom. This could be enough to piss off the other states into forming an anti-Prussian bloc.

All of these aren't all that plausible but I can't think of many other ways this would work in a Prussian dominated German Empire.

Interesting idea! :)

Also, though, what about having Frederick III avoid getting cancer (or survive his cancer) and thus live longer and break-up Prussia in order to weaken the Prussian Junkers so that he will have an easier time reforming Germany?

To weaken the power of the Prussian Junkers within the German Empire?

Makes no logic. Despite all the claims that the Junkers ruled Prussia and that Prussia ruled Germany by the end of the century the Prussian influence on Imperial Germany was already much diluted.

Breaking up the Kingdom of Prussia, or any attempt to do it at that time, would be asking for internal confrontations as the Prussian Army was the main component of the Imperial Army.

A surviving Frederick III might actually welcome such a confrontation if he thinks that he will win it; after all, I doubt that the Prussian Junkers were very pro-democracy and whatnot!

And why would Frederick destroy the source of his power? If he survives he can expect a long reign to make Germany more liberal and has I said the Junker was loosing influence, so for him to break his own State is idiotic.

This is like the King of Spain breaking up Castille just to strengthen the other Spanish kingdoms.

The King of Prussia was bearer of the Bundespräsidium the presidency of the Germany Empire and his title/name was "German Emperor". It was not a personal union so no Kingdom of Prussia no King of Prussia no German Emperor.

I know it wasn't a personal union but if any Emperor tried to partition the Kingdom of Prussia, I think they would offer a bit more resistance than Poland.

But did you understand the implications ? There is no Emperor without a King of Prussia. Or not even an empire.

Of course! Which is why I still would be neurotic for the King of Prussia to destroy his own kingdom, given that that was the reason why the Empire existed on the first place.
