So...I was reading about Gonzalo Guerrero, the Spaniard who was among the first Europeans to visit the New World with Columbus and went native among the Mayans, becoming a warlord and fighting against the Conquistadors when they came back.
So how could we get it so, Europeans still find the New World...but instead of conquering it and subjugating or wiping out the Natives as OTL, their colonies fail or have less support from Europe, and they go native, assimilating into Native American societies and socially adapting to them, and bringing their knowledge of western technology and learning to Native societies, as the Roanoke colony supposedly did when they joined the Croatoan, or creating mixed societies like the Metis, or becoming leader of their adopted society against other Europeans like Guerrero, and this becomes the overall pattern of the Columbian Exchange and New World-Old World interaction?
