AHC: A much better 19th century for Spain

A union with Austria! All hail Habsburg

They tried that before and this was the result:

They tried that before and this was the result:
That was not the result of A union, that was the result of MANY unions. If they just do one it should be okay. Myself I'd say find someway for Spain to avoid the Napoleonic Wars and consolidate it's agricultural sector which was made up of very tiny plots or large latifundia-type holdings.

Let's face it, Spain had a really really bad 19th century. How can we make it better off for them?

No french (Napoleon) intervention in the spanish royal problems, intrigues between Ferdinand and his father.

So no War of Spain (Guerre d'Espagne in French) or Peninsular War, so no mass destructions or losses of life. And less weapons in the hands of the population and less tradition of popular insurrection and guerilla...

If the coup d'etat who replace Charles IV with his son Ferdinand gave Spain a more enlightened government and some liberals reforms, it will be a better start.

And if the political opposition of the conservatives and the Church will not become an armed opposition, it will also be a better start.
