AHC: A more far flung 2nd Congo War

Is there any way the 2nd Congo War could've expanded well beyond the borders of the DRC to most of the rest of sub saharan Africa making it more comparable to WW2 not only in terms of the death toll, but in the territory involved? To put it simply, how could this map of participating countries have been expanded and actual fronts in the war sprung up elsewhere in Africa? Could Western and/ or other non African powers have become directly involved as well?

Specific PODs greatly appreciated. Bonus points for TL skeletons

The problem is that the 2CW is mostly internal in the Congo. Rwanda / Uganda / Burundi sent troops to have regime change, not to conquer territory.

The best bet you can get is if there is an open proclamation to dissolve the DRC, and have some separatism. Have the invaders suport Kasai / Katanga seceeding and have them backed by a few foreign countries * China, Russia* which causes alarm. Then have a bunch of African neighbors rounded up as proxies by the west and sent in not only to stop the advance of those wanting regime change, while China and Russia round up some neighbors to stop that change.

You would probably need a POD in the mid 80s to keep Russia and get China more involved in Africa without butterflying away the collapse of the USSR or the Rwandan genocide.
